Anyone who wants to branch out and add new and innovative foreign recipes to their repertoire will want to pick up The League of Kitchens Cookbook: Brilliant Tips, Secret Methods & Favorite Family Recipes from Around the Worldby Lisa Kyung Gross, founder and CEO of The League of Kitchens, a cooking school based in New York City.

The cookbook includes bios of the instructors at the school; all from diverse places around the world, who present mouthwatering dishes for us to make at home. Not only are the vignettes interesting, but many of the recipes are unusual and very appealing. Personally, my list of “make very soon” dishes has become quite long, and this cookbook will keep me busy for months. The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions to make it easy for both advanced and beginning cooks. Believe it or not, most of the necessary ingredients are easily found at mainstream grocery stores across the country.

The recipes are accompanied by beautiful, professional photographs that show what the finished dishes should look like. Included are comfort foods such as soups, rice dishes, curries, a few desserts, and main dishes, including some vegetarian dishes. All told, this one makes a perfect addition to a good recipe library and will definitely be used.
